BW Invites Views On Its Plans To Consult On The Pricing And Allocation Of Long Term Moorings

BW is asking boaters to consider and feedback on the proposed scope, format and timescales for its 12-week public consultation into the pricing and allocation of BW long term moorings. Scheduled to get underway in May, the consultation will include a review of the current mooring tenders trial as well as alternative options put forward by boating interest groups for the pricing and allocation of vacancies.

Defra Announces British Waterways Grant For 2008/09

Today (21 February) Defra announced its grant to British Waterways for 2008/09. The grant is £56.624 million (like for like comparison 2007/08, £56.4 million), once repayment of £1.024 million of National Loans Fund is excluded.

BW Announces Results Of Boat Licence Fee Consultation

British Waterways (BW) has published the results of a three month public consultation into boat licence fees in England and Wales. As a result of responses from a range of boaters and boating organisations, together with acknowledgement of a downturn in the wider economy, BW will introduce lower than anticipated licence fee increases for 2008. The 10% prompt payment discount which benefits many fully paid-up boaters will be retained, whilst further measures to crack down on licence evasion, including a new penalty for late payment, will be introduced.

2008/09 Canal repairs are just the beginning

British Waterways is committing to a major programme of repairs to reopen the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal in time for the 2009 cruising season, but warns that this is just the start of a lengthy process to secure the future of this important historic and economic artery. The whole engineering programme could last up to four years and cost in the region of £15million with major spend required in 2008/09.
